Greetings listeners….

I hope all is well. It was a pretty long work week that just past, and while chillin’ in studio Friday night, I get this alert on my phone:

From: SomaFM

Subject: Live Space Shuttle coverage tonight on Mission Control
Sent: Aug 28, 2009 10:26 PM

Dear Doug R:

Sorry for the late notice, hope you get this in time:

After 2 aborted attempts earlier this week, Space Shuttle Mission
STS-128 is set to launch tonight (in just a couple hours) at 9pm
pacific, midnight Eastern time (04:00 GMT) on a flight to the
international space station.

We’ll be mixing ambient music and the live mission audio from NASA on
our new Mission Control channel. You can tune in at http://somafm.com

If you’re using a device that needs a direct stream link, that is:
http://somafm.com/missioncontrol.pls

We hope you’ll tune in!

Best of luck to Commander Rick Sturckow and the crew of STS-128

At that time I was still trying to decide on the tracks for this weekend’s podcast, then……the light bulb went off. I had never done a pure ambient show before….at least before now ;-). So, I present to u, The Sunday Soundtrack STS-128 Mission Control Flow. I know that I have a few ambient fans out there, as well as a few Twitter followers that express keen NASA interest, either as an employee or enthusiast (some of you know I supported NASA as a systems engineer for 8 years, and began my career in satellite communications in 1988). I had the good fortune of visiting Cape Canaveral to view a launch of satellite that was one of ten that got put into orbit, part of a Dept of Navy program I worked on. If you ever have a chance to view a launch, take advantage of it…it still excites me.

That being said, I present to you this week’s playlist:

Space Shuttle Discovery Launch audio. The STS-128 mission to the International Space Station.

♫ Yuminale – On The Eve Of Loxic Streams
♫ Velocette – Space Q
♫ Steve Roach, Erik Wollo – Stream Of Thought 19
♫ Disturbed Earth – Temple
♫ Spice Barons – Voyager (And What Did You Think Of The First Episode)
♫ Anthony Rother – Elixir Of Life Part I
♫ Gas – Zauberberg V
♫ Alpha Wave Movement – Silent Promise
♫ Natural Frequencies Aka Andreas Leifeld – Timeless
♫ Harold Budd – The Room Alight
♫ William Edge – Not Returning Home

I hope you’ve enjoyed the ambient flow this weekend. As I’ve said previously, you can find tracks like these, as well as other excellent chillout and electronica tracks at Soma FM as well as follow them on Twitter

For getting excellent launch and mission coverage, follow Space Launch News on Twitter.

Special shout out to Hidden Place and Steph, my ambient expert and NASA bud.

Keep it ultra-chilled.

peace,
F!

Greetings listeners….

Welcome back to the Sunday Soundtrack for 16 Aug 09. I trust all is well with you. Here we are in the month of August. I want a do-over (as we used to say as kids) for the summer. It’s flying by waaaaay to fast, but, I’m enjoying it anyway. It’s been especially a good time for new musical endeavors, discoveries, and connecting with new artists that allow me, as well as request for me, to feature their tracks on this podcast – that’s always a good thing.

Speaking of connecting with new musical endeavors and connecting with new artists, the last month has afforded me the opportunity to do something I’ve wanted to do for quite sometime: working on remixes. Just over the last week, I was asked, and got the chance to, lay some guitar tracks for a remake of a Stevie Wonder classic, Rocket Love. The artist who did the arrangement and recording is none other than Fave of the world famous Friday Favecast. Fave sent me his initial track, I laid my track, sent it back, he worked it and sent it to the third party on the flow on in LA, Todd Kelley of Flowink, for the drum programming. I love the fact that we are leveraging the net, as well as Logic Studio to make this track nice. Gotta be truthful about it, it’s already a winner. Stay tuned.

Similarly, while this is all going on, another NICE artist we both follow on Twitter, Philip Clark approaches Todd and I to do remixes for his previous album. While Todd has mad flow in this area, I am very excited to get the chance to a remix for an artist with such mad flow. I received his vocal stems today and will start work on it soon, something I’m defnitely looking forward to. Stay tuned to the Sunday Soundtrack for featured tracks by Philip Clark.

That being said, this edition of the podcast features a number of tracks that are remixes, three speicifically of a track entitled “Janeiro” by Soul Sessions. I’m liking the flow of the playlist. I hope you do as well. With that being said: the playlist.

Hello Listeners…
Thanks for checking out the Sunday Soundtrack once again, it’s always a pleasure bringing it to you.

Here we are, in the summer solstice once again. Being a four seasons man, I always embrace it (u can keep the humidity though) for it brings long summer nignts…even with the heat, that can be a cool thing.

Speaking of summer, I started with a track that reps summer in last week’s podcast and will continue do so here (see the playlist below) with a regular artist on The Sunday Soundtrack, Chevalier. What’s summer with the beach? Two artists from the Blackfish Productions camp bring us “Bondi Beach” and “blue beach”, as well. Now that we’re in the summer flow, I bring to you, the playlist

1. De Muse – Fragmentorchestra/ragmentorchestra
2. Cham’s Groove – Groove 7/SFTF – Barrigada Sky
3. Soon – ORG Lounge/Has It Come to This
4. Seemless – Buddha Lounge/The Best of Lounge – L.A. Lounge
5. Summer Nights – Chevalier/Balance
6. Drift – Buddha Lounge/The Best of Lounge – L.A. Lounge
7. Interject – Buddha Lounge/The Best of Lounge – L.A. Lounge
8. blue beach – boot cut rockers/moving pattern session 1
9. Bondi Beach – Blackfish/Hidden Shore
10. Cinquo Dias – Espresso Del Lago/Yeki

Even though the heat is here in my neck of the woods, today we have a cool reprieve. I hope this edition of The Sunday Soundtrack matches that reprieve.

My prayers and condolences go out to the Jackson Family regarding the loss of their son, Michael Joseph Jackson, this past Friday. Without getting into a long post about this phenomenal artist, I’ll suffice it to say that it’s my belief that the King of Pop has gone to be with The King of Kings: Remember The Time

Hello listeners, Twitter followers and Facebook group members…

Thanks again for tuning into another edition of The Sunday Soundtrack. I trust your weekend and/or week is going well. It’s been a good one thus far. Work is getting busier and busier, so chillin’ out putting together this podcast is a nice little excursion away from such matters. As the title says, this podcast should have went live LAST weekend, but I had some technical difficulties that didn’t permit to mix it down. I hope you enjoy it nonetheless.

I did some track hunting this week and came up with same nice new gems from an artist called ORG Lounge. Soma FM is my main source of tracks that I draw from, especially since it’s net radio flowin’ through the studio here, as well as on XM Radio in the car. I hope you enjoy them as much as I do. In anticipation of summer, Monte LaRue brings us “Summer Interlude” (I think I feel a summer theme coming up for a future podcast…stay tuned).

Speaking of staying in tune, I think I may try to start including some artist interviews in the near future…would that be of interest? Let me know what you think. The possibility is definitely there since I’ve been in touch with a few indie artists who have expressed thanks regarding their tracks being featured….

Ok, without further adieu, the playlist for the Sunday Soundtrack – 14 Jun 09 is as follows:

1. Spirit -Monet/The Groove Boutique: Volume One
2. Mirror – ORG Lounge/Has It Come to This
3. Summer Interlude – Monte la Rue/Interludia (Disque Deluxe)
4. Soon (Jazzy Jeff Mix) – Jazzanova/Jazzanova Remixed [Disc 2]
5. 97 Ways – Groove Matter/Jazzelcious Presents
6. Shiny Cage – Fresh Moods/Love. Death. Angels
7. Chambre 606 – Alex Cortiz/Mesmerising
8. Drowned – Campa/Obsession Lounge
9. Smooth (featuring Dustlab) – ORG Lounge/ORG Lounge
10. Din Atrium – Soehngenetic/Second Hand

Welcome To The Sunday Soundtrack – 07 Jun 09

Hello Listeners…

Good to be back with another Sunday Soundtrack podcast. It’s my gift to you (as well as me) and I really enjoy every chance I get to do it. I hope your week has been good, or is starting off well and will remain as such throughout.

I was driving somewhere last week and my wife asked me how the podcasts were coming along with regards to featuring music, etc. I told her one of the great things about featuring these genres is the willingness of indie labels and artists to have their music featured on a podcast. The labels and artist that have found out about the Sunday Soundtrack have always been generous and thankful to me for supporting and showcasing their tracks, to the end where they have placed me on their mailing list to receive free downloads of new tracks as they are released. Last week, I contaced Skipless via his myspace page regarding the tracks from his EP, “Rooftops”, that I’ve featured, He was so thankful that, even though both his EPs are available for download, he wanted to send me physical CDs….all the way from Finland….that’s some luv right there! LOL. All in all, it’s always a win-win situation doing this podcast. New tracks for me, exposure for them!

Here we are, into the second half of 2009 and embarking on the summer solstice in a few weeks. We’ve had a lot of rain in the DC metro area, so I’m looking forward to some extended sunshine. I’m sure many in the area would agree. If anything, we are super green over here! Interestingly enough, it’s this second half of the year, leading into the next, where I really look at what needs to be focused on and/or fixed to start a new year off…what about you? Whatever it is, I hope that what you positively set out to achieve becomes manifest.

The hiatus last week allowed me to tune into my favorite sources and bringing 8 brand new tracks this weekend. Returning artists are Blank and Jones, Alex Cortiz, and Skipless. The mood is definitely chilled throughout the playlist, ending with yet another track that I think defines the genre of downtempo and chillout VERY nicely. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.

1. Racetracks -Tony Watson/Abstrakt Sampler
2. Solarcell – Fresh Moods/Exhale
3. Smooth – Alex Cortiz/Magnifico
4. Skeptic Manc – Moss/East Coast Chip Shop
5. Loose Tune – Skipless/Jazzamentals EP
6. Livechange – Fresh Moods/Exhale
7. Blue Sun – Moss/Stone Soup
8. Twilight – Blank & Jones/Relax Edition 2 (Sun) – EP
9. Really – Bluemind/Om Chilled, Vol. 2

Another great Chill Out Track on Ibiza Chill Session 2006

Song: Emotional – Laguna Sun (Ibiza chill session mix)

Welcome To The Sunday Soundtrack (Hip-Hop Floetics: The Minimal Flow) – 24 May 09

needle to the groove

Good day, crew….

Thanks for joining me on the Sunday Soundtrack again, it’s always a pleasure to have u listening in. I hope and trust all is well with everyone and for those celebrating Memorial Day, please remember to honor our heroes that have fought, sacrified, and continue to sacrifice for the freedom of this great country. To them we owe great gratitude. All heroes, of all types, deserve this thankfulness.

This week, I felt a hip-hop vibe many days and the result is a mix of the conceptual flow of the Sunday Soundtrack with some organic instrumental hip hop vibe. Many of you have discussed music with me, know that I am a huge fan of, as well as being, the indie artist. I bring to you, this episode, two such indie artists in the genre of smooth, organic instrumental hip hop. My featured artist is Skipless…bring us tracks from a release called Rooftops. Special guest is none other than my man (who I have and have had the pleasure of musically collaborating with) Todd Kelley, aka The Big La, with two smooth selections from his EPs entitled “Blue, Kinda Grey” and “Water Under The Bridge”. I also have some spoken word interlude by a very good friend and poetess, Roqui, bringing us a piece entitled “Untitled”…flowing over a track by yours truly.

Without further adieu (u know me, a man of brevity), the playlist:

Rooftops Intro – Skipless/Rooftops
Climbing – Skipless/Rooftops
Freddie Knows – Skipless/Rooftops
Alter – Skipless/Rooftops
Ashes – Skipless/Rooftops
Ego – Skipless/Rooftops
Eclipse Outro – Skipless/Rooftops
Spoken Word: “Untitled” by Afro Bane/Roqui
Moment Of Truths (The Morning After) – Big La vs. Todd/Water… Under The Bridge
The Etry – Big La vs. Todd/Blue… Kinda Grey/
Water Under The Bridge – Big La vs. Todd/Water… Under The Bridge

Linkage:

Welcome To The Sunday Soundtrack – 10 May 09

Crew…
Thanks for stopping in again for this week’s Sunday Soundtrack. As usual. always a complete pleasure in sharing this musical pallette every week that I can.

This week’s playlist includes a continuation of tracks from the Obsession Lounge compilation, first featured last week. The OL collection collection has a well rounded representation of tracks in the chillout genre, so I hope you enjoy another taste of such.

About half way through the week, I was auditioning tracks to feature this week, and stumbled into my Incognito playlist. While ‘Cog is not classified as downtempo, chillout, or the like, I think their vibe is right inline with the concept of the Sunday Soundtrack That being said I bring you a triple play of Incognito, as well. There is something about their music (to me) that lifts spirits each and every time. I’ve lost track of how many times, over the years, listening to their tracks has transformed my not so good mood into a much better one. I had to include them this week.

With that being said…here’s this week’s playlist:

1. Wonders & Signs – Buckshot LeFonque/Buckshot LeFonque
2. One Step Beyond – Fogger/Obsession Lounge
3. All That – Atjazz/LabFunk
4. A Past Life – Adam Singer/Gradient Sound
5. I Can See The Future – Incognito/No Time Like The Future [Bonus Track]
6. She Wears Black – Incognito/Beneath The Surface
7. Fountain Of Life – Incognito/Beneath The Surface
8. Moon B252 – Nor Elle/Mole Listening Pearls
9. Une Table B Trois – ZEN-MEN feat. Caroline/Obsession Lounge
10. Conmigo – Fous De La Mer/Obsession Lounge

All the tracks featured can found or identified at Amazon.com, iTunes, or discogs.com

  • Incognito

    Quiktraks (60 sec audio) – Day 2

    Hey crew….

Here’s a lil sumthin’ I was messin’ around with this evening. No loops this time. This track was originally composed in an old Mac sequencer called Master Tracks Pro. I programmed the drums using my Yamaha RY30 drum machine. I also used a Yamaha TX-81Z for the bass synth, and Yamaha TG-55 for the synth pad. I took the MIDI sequence and imported it in to Logic Express 7.2 and used all EXS24P sampler voices. The track name, No Need For Clocks, was for an artist I was working on a demo for (this is what I came up with, though she eventually did something different with the song).

I seem to be into producing chilled beats lately… I wonder why… 😉

The bounce audio came out real rough, and I dont know why. There are no plugins at all on the tracks, but I did say I will post whatever I come up with, good and not so good. Note to self: find out why the bounce is bad.

    Background Notes:

    -Recorded with: Logic Express 7.2.2
    -Computer: Mac Powerbook G4 Aluminum
-Drums: EXS24P Sampler Hip Hop Kit
-Bass Synth: EXS24P Sampler Analog Bass
-Synth Pad: EXS24P Sampler Filtered Dark Analog Pad

My personal tracks are on my Myspace page
    The Lab is here.

    Thanks!
    F!
