Welcome To The Sunday Soundtrack- 29 Aug 10 (Exodus of Summer)

Welcome Listeners…

Always glad to have you tune in to The Sunday Soundtrack. I just got back from a VERY relaxing week in Cape Cod, MA. Pretty much slept until 11am at the earliest everyday and didn’t even realize how much I really needed it. It was a necessary chilled out time for sure.

Here we are at the end of August and the summer has FLOWN by. I’ll be sad to see it go but the time away has made it memorable. Today’s tracks are handpicked from a bunch of favorites and I hope they prove enjoyable. Last week I featured a track from Bebel Gilberto and this week I bring you her sister, Astrud. Anything that the Gilberto family releases always proves to be a good fit for The Sunday Soundtrack.

Incognito (my favorite group of all time) has released their latest CD “Transtlantic RPM” in June. I highly suggest you pick that up. While I’m not featuring any tracks from that release, I bring you two great tracks which have a vibe that fits this podcast, “I Can See The Future”, and the laid back, well known favorite to many, “After The Fall” (I’d like to see my band cover the latter track).

As always, I love to feature tracks by Afterlife, the definitive flow for all things chill out, this week it’s Cry (Sunset Dream Mix), from The Mix EP. Jeff Lorber brings us “Tuva”, a track created and inspired by the ancient art of “throat singing (listen to the intro) from the natives of Tuva, a land Jeff once visited. One of my favorite tracks in this edition is Aquanote’s (Gabriel Rene) “Nowhere (Pearl Speakeasy Remix)”. This track, compared to the original, is my definition of what a true remix is, and in addition, I really love how the elements of the track come together. You can here three other remixes of it here .

I trust you’ll enjoy all the tracks on the playlist, so without further adieu:

1 – I Can See The Future-Incognito/No Time Like The Future [Bonus Track] Amazon
2 – Nowhere (Pearl Speakeasy Remix) – Aquanote/Nude Dimensions, Volume 3 Discogs
3 – Alive (Instrumental) – J-Boogie’s Dubtronic Science/Mushroom Jazz 6 Om Records
4 – Cry (Sunset Dream Mix) – Afterlife/The Mix EP Discogs
5 – After The Fall – Incognito/100 Degrees And Rising Amazon
6 – L.O.V.E. And You & I (Dr. Ghe Mix) – Jazzanova/Jazzanova Remixed [Disc 1] Amazon
7 – Aquarian Angel- Blue Six/Aquarian Angel Amazon
8 – Certain Sadness – Astrud Gilberto/A Certain Smile, A Certain Sadness Amazon
9 – Handsome – Bathysphere/Bathysphere’s Daylight Shrubbery EP Official Site
10 – Tuva – Jeff Lorber/West Side Stories Official Site

As always, thanks for tuning in. It’s been a gorgeous, but busy day 1 back from vacation. My apologies for getting this out later than sooner. Kudos to my entire podcasting crew and you, the listeners. Enjoy.

Welcome To The Sunday Soundtrack – 07 Feb 10

Welcome listeners!

Welcome back to another edition of The Sunday Soundtrack. I am definitely glad to be back on track with some smooth electronica, ambient, and downtempo tracks for your enjoyment. It’s been (as usual) a very busy month and as I had mentioned on the FB group page, I’m transitioning the podcast from a weekly to monthly format. The reason is primarily to return to the type of content in blog and podcast that I originally started with at the inception of the podcast back in Dec 2007 – links, commentary (more), etc. This will also help with the amount of other musical production projects I’m involved with…oh, and then there’s my day job (wink).

I’m in the midst (with the rest of the DMV) of Snowpocalypse 2010…lol. We got over two feet of snow today and I haven’t shoveled a flake yet. Tomorrow morning I’m up at it early, and the earlier the better because there’s a LOT of white stuff out there!

This weekend has been, because of the snowstorm, pretty lazy. The tracks I am featuring are a few of my favorites, hopefully they’ll become the same for you. As I mentioned before, I often pick tracks that I think musically describe my general demeanor across a spectrum. If I had to pick a track from the playlist that fits how I feel at the moment, I’d say it’s Blackfish’s “Hidden Shore (Asia Mix)”, the opening track below. Of course, the definitive track, by constraint, this weekend IS Headphonism’s “Stay Home and Chill”. Any track I feature from Incognito is always a favorite, I think the group, for over 25 years has achieved a universal vibe that touches all in one way or another, an achievement that I think has been unparalleled by any other group. To fully round out the soundtrack, I always have to include some ambient goodness, this time around it’s Darshan Ambient’s ” The Geometer of Dreams” That being said, without further adieu, I bring you the playlist.

1. Hidden Shore (Asia Mix) – Blackfish/Finest Asia Lounge (The Year of The Monkey)
2. Magnetic Ocean – Incognito/Tribes, Vibes & Scribes
3. Wanderers Creek – Art Bleek/Between Yesterday & Tomorrow
4. Entropy – Chevalier/Balance
5. Gotta Be Love – Joey Youngman/Om Lounge, Vol. 10
6. Smooth – Alex Cortiz/Magnifico
7. Stay Home And Chill – Headphonism/Om.Chilled
8. Come Back (Bonus Track) – Jose Padilla/Café del Mar: The Best Of (Disc 2)
9. The Geometer of Dreams – Darshan Ambient/From Pale Hands To Weary Skies
10. Florent 2 A.M – Blank & Jones/Relax Edition 3 (Sun) – EP

This is the year where I hope to bring to you more of my tracks. Tracks that fall into the same genres I have been featuring on my podcast. There’s a love I have for instrumental music, especially downtempo and chillout tracks that can evoke a certain mood. Moods that in these days of rushing and running that are probably welcomed by all of us. They’ll vary from short interludes to full pieces…so…stay tuned.

I’d like to give a special shout out to The GRAMMYs for allowing me (as you know) to be the official community blogger for the Jazz nominees this year. It was a blast writing the blog posts and honor at the same time. I had a great time doing it and made some great connections as a result. Congrats to the other official bloggers as well:

Once again, thanks for listening to this edition of the podcast. For those of you that are on Twitter, you can follow The Sunday Soundtrack here. On Facebook, you can join the group here.

Stay tuned next Sunday for a SPECIAL Sunday Soundtrack podcast, entitled Cupid’s Hunt 2010. One in a series of podcasts honoring the spirit of Valentine’s Day. I’ll be bringing to you a unique mix of tracks for you to, of course, chill to….

Until then…..keep it chilled.

peace,
F!

In The Lab – Dec 2009

Greetings crew….

Happy Holidays (Kwanzaa, Happy New Year, etc) to all. A lot of you catch my tweets about what I’m doing musically, so I wanted to give you a peek at where it all happens. All the composers, songwriters, musicians, etc have such a spot, most of them (obviously your truly) tend to call it a lab of some sort. I was talking with a friend yesterday, who’s a songwriter/musician/producer about studio workspaces and how they run the gamut of styles. I kinda thrive on ergonomics, comfort, and organization, etc…helps the muse flow freely. As for as tools, I’m a firm believer that the best utilize what they have to the max to get the results needed.

I’m looking forward to completing a long awaited CD that my partner and I have been working on, continuing work on a collaboration called “contempojazzsoulhop” with my boys Fave and Todd, a smooth jazz project with KLWJazz, more remixes for Philip Clark, gospel jazz keyboardist Kevin Battle, vocal group Destined 2 Praise, vocalist Dana Yates, more production work with AfterSix Productions, saxophonist Harron Evoria, annnnnnd my own CD project, whew. Ok, anyway, here’s mine, in it’s current form:

That’s about it…now u see where the tweets flow from, the hangout spot.

Happy New Year…

peace,
F!

Greetings Listeners….

I hope this podcast finds u well. I like the graphic chosen for this week’s podcast. It describes how the past few days have been, lots of rain, overcast skies, and a blustery day or two. Frankly, I enjoyed, and still am enjoying every bit of it. It definitely causes me to appreciate the sunny days as well. Days like the ones of recent do provide for some good inspiration, some introspection, etc…so I have an appreciation for them as well.

Glad to inform you that I finally came across some new tracks for the podcast, ones that reflect this weekend as well. Kicking off the podcast is none other than British soul giants, 4Hero. I love their arrangements, big drums, lush big strings, and soulful lyrics. It’s a pleasure, as a musician and listener, to hear musical compositions in this genre that has been missed stateside. Carina Andersson brings that vocal magic to every thing she touches.

I discovered Capsula, Pineapple Corner, J. Boogie’s Dubtronic Science, and Afterlife’s (Smooch) tracks on Groove Salad this week. I think my favorite track on this podcast is Alive (Instrumental). Of course, one can never go wrong with Blackfish or the chill out artist of the century, Afterlife.

That being said, without further adieu, I bring u the play list:

1. Morning Child f/Carina Andersson – 4hero
2. Easy Fly – Pineapple Corner/Pineapple Corner
3. California Sunrise – Blank & Jones/Relax Edition 3 (Sun) – EP
4. Circular Motion – Nuspirit Helsinki
5. Alive (Instrumental) – J-Boogie’s Dubtronic Science/Mushroom Jazz 6
6. Bay of Islands – Blackfish/Pole Navigation
7. Illusion Hill – Capsula/Sense of a Drop
8. Clear Blue Sky – Afterlife/The St. Regis Chill & Groove
9. Smooch – Afterlife/Speck of Gold
10. Gutenmorgenduft – dZihan & Kamien & The Brut Imperial Quintet/Fakes

Thanks to my new listeners, Celeste, Belinda, and Audrey. Big up to Philip Clark for the podcast drop!

I’m gonna relax tomorrow….knowing me, probably in the studio most of the day, catching up on creating!

peace and blessings…

F!

[Edit: Please forgive me for omitting my standard intro voiceover. How I forgot to include it, is beyond me…duh!]

Welcome To The Sunday Soundtrack – 09 Sep 09

Listeners,

How are you? Welcome back to another edition of The Sunday Soundtrack. Always glad you can partake of the music I bring forth. It’s definitely a labor of love and I appreciate the comments left here and abroad. As summer begins to wind down, there is a time that is ending and, as the photo depicts above, a time ahead. Being a four seasons man, I always anticipate the vibrant colors and crisp, cool weather of the autumnal equinox, better known as Fall. While summer is always known to be more care free and lazy, Fall has it’s own goodness to me, and in that…bring it on.

The tracks I bring to you for this podcast are mainly new. As usual, the pics come my favorite source, Soma FM. Incidentally, 60% of the tracks this time came within 3 hours of off and on listening this Friday night.

Inner Shade brings us Little Sunflower, a well made remake of the classic Freddie Hubbard tune, with a twist of drum and bass influence as the foundation of track. I also particularly enjoy the tune because Inner Shade is a spinoff group of Incognito. The CD, 4 Corners, is their solo release, which I think is becoming more difficult to come by. If you happen to find it, definitely add it to your collection. It features the jazz guitar work of Mark Whitfield and the soulfully vocal goodness of Maysa Leak (the primary female lead vocalist Incognito is known for).

In honor of Vikter Duplaix’s new CD and single release entitled “Electric Love”, I bring you an old favorite of mine and a track perfect for the Sunday Soundtrack musical palette, “Another Love Gone By” featuring Esthero.

Another artist I’m happy to feature is Philip Clark…the NEW definition of blue eyed soul. I became acquainted with PC via Twitter after we crossed paths via some musical collaborationwork I am doing with fellow brothers in podcasting Fave and The Big La Todd Kelley, now known as “C3”. After checkin’ out PC’s tracks on Myspace…I was DEFINITELY feelin’ his musical flow. Per further discussion, he “Granted” me (pun intended) the great opportunity to do a remix of a track of my choice from his last CD. Needless to say, after being a remix fan for YEARS, I hopped on it. He knows what track it is, but P, if you are reading this…I’ve got three remixes I am working on of said track…three different genres…I hope you like them!

As for some “smooth jazz” goodness, I was led to include a track, dedicated to a person on Twitter who continually tweets inspirational, resourceful, and heart warming messages everytime I notice them. The track “Monica” is for you, Monica, better known on Twitter as Deltavogue…thanks for the very nice complements you gave the Sunday Soundtrack last week. I greatly appreciate it!

With that being said, the playlist for this weekend is as follows:

1. Little Sunflower – Inner Shade/4 Corners
2. Monica – Fattburger/The Best Of Fattburger
3. Granted – Philip Clark/The State Of Blue-Eyed Soul
4. Sanso Sheep – Jens Buchert/Ice Lounge
5. Sands of Time – Ten Madison/Grounded
6. IMG.00.37 – Akotcha/Sound Burger
7. Elephant (Dub Mix) – Spiral System & Lottie Child/Here We Are – EP
8. Another Great Love Gone By Featuring Esthero – Vikter Duplaix/Bold & Beautiful
9. Reflections – Jens Buchert/Sunrider
10. Billy Bibbit – Moss/East Coast Chip Shop

I hope you’ve enjoyed this edition of the Sunday Soundtrack. Kudos to all my podcasting massive, bring good musical vibes all week long: Darrenkeith (My Love For Music), Fave (The Friday Favecast), Todd Kelley (Flowink), Macedonia (BSOTS), EJ Flavors (OSW), T. Grundy (Rhythms In Black Satin), DJ Diva (The Monday Mixtape), Honeysoul (Honeysoul), Anjibee (The Chillcast), Nikki (Soulrific) and a host of others. Check all their podcasts out under my category Music Podcasts, over there to the right!

Have a good week….
Keep it chilled…
peace,
F!

Welcome To The Sunday Soundtrack – 19 Jul 09 (UltraChilled)

Welcome listeners….

I hope this blog post finds you well. It’s a mellow Sunday evening here, nice way to round out a busy day. In the background, here in studio, is the latest mix from fleep, Summer, some very soulful global deep house….definitely suitable vibe for me any day of the week.

Speaking of week, the last one was extremely busy, just coming off a big software design review at work, and now getting ready for the resulting work thereof. This brings me to the desire to do a laid back mix, featuring an artist who I consider to me definitive example of chill….Afterlife. Here is a small excerpt from the official MySpace page:

“Steve Miller is Afterlife. The top UK Downtempo producer. The most played artist in Ibiza, at least at the beach bars and anywhere into lush, lilting, chilled and totally saturated sounds of impeccable taste. He is the sunset phenomenon, purveyor of deep and soulful music….”

The words above provide an impeccable description of the essence of Afterlife. Frankly I think the music will speak far better than anywords ever could. That being said, here’s what I have on tap for this episode:

1. Lovedub – Afterlife/The Afterlife Lounge
2. Clear Blue Sky – Afterlife/The St. Regis Chill & Groove
3. A Way (Original) – Afterlife/The Album, the Single Remixes, the Journey… Disc 1
4. Deeper – Into Places – Afterlife/Simplicity 2000
5. Breather 2000 (Arithunda Mix) – Afterlife/The St. Regis Chill & Groove
6. Speck of Gold – Afterlife/The St. Regis Chill & Groove
7. Return to Margin (Afterlife Mix) – Afterlife/The Afterlife Lounge
8. Shine – AfterLife ft Cathy Battistessa/The Blue Ba
9. Miracles – Afterlife

You can find much more about Afterlife at the following sites:

Afterlife (The Official MySpace Page)
Afterlife – The Official Website

Thanks for listening as usual, I highly appreciate it. I’ll be taking the next weekend off for some PRIME relaxation, but plan on returning in August. In the meantime, in case you missed the post, you can help me develop the playlist for the next Sunday Soundtrack. If you’re so inclined, check out the details here.

I hope whenever you’re listening to this, your in a cool state of mind. Look for you next time…

peace and blessings…
